It’s a warm morning just after sunrise, and the only sounds one can hear are the rustle of leaves and the distant, melodic “paput” call echoing across the countryside. This is everyday life at Casa de Baix, a true retreat nestled in the rural heart of the village of Llucmaçanes.
While the architecture of the house showcases clean, modern lines, the interior and garden design create a deliberate counterpoint - seamlessly drawing the surrounding landscape into the home and capturing the authentic, timeless spirit of Menorca.

In the interior design, the project remained guided by the same principle: respect and connection with the surrounding environment. Locally sourced materials, such as marès stone and ullastre wood, were carefully combined with a soft, light-toned palette that amplifies natural light and reinforces the overall sense of openness throughout the home.
Collaborating with local artisans for custom-made furniture was key to giving each space its own unique identity. Furthermore, the expansive windows act as living frames, seamlessly integrating the garden with the interior and establishing a fluid, continuous visual dialogue between the indoor and outdoor spaces.

The garden design aimed to bring the harmony of the surrounding landscape into the domestic setting, creating a more organic and balanced atmosphere that engages in dialogue with the existing architecture.
The overall layout of the garden is organised around a central area that integrates a lawn, a swimming pool, and an outdoor pergola with wooden decking.
Secondary areas, such as the outdoor kitchen, petanque court, and exterior jacuzzi, function as small oases within the property. These are arranged around the central core, creating a sequential journey that allows each space in the garden to be progressively discovered.

Staying connected to Menorca’s intrinsic natural value is fundamental. Through firsthand experience and a deep appreciation for the island, we’ve gained an understanding of what truly thrives here, translating that knowledge into considered, enduring solutions. This approach involves selecting native plant species that provide a harmonious aesthetic while ensuring low maintenance, minimal resource use, and resilience to the Mediterranean climate.
